Celtic Campervans’ Guide to Family Friendly Festivals in Ireland
Ireland boasts a rich variety of festivals. Visitors can take their pick of music festivals, historical and traditional festivals, art festivals, culinary festivals and more. When it comes to family friendly festivals, there's more than enough on offer to keep kids entertained. Here, Ireland's go-to company for motorhome hire in Ireland, Celtic Campervans, offers its guide to some of the best festivals around the country for family fun.
If you're planning on motorhome rental in Ireland for your family holiday then you've made a smart choice. The country has a good number of festivals throughout the year that are aimed at families with children of all ages, and a tour of the best ones in a motorhome makes for a great family adventure. There's nothing like hitting the open road to keep the kids from being bored; adding some festivals to the itinerary means there's something fun around the corner for all the family. Ireland is a family-friendly country in general and you'll find a good number of festivals on the calendar that have something to offer children, but here is a handful of some of the best.
Once you've collected your Celtic Campervan in Dublin you're in the right part of Ireland to check out one of the most popular children's festivals in Ireland: Spréacha - Fingal's International Arts Festival for Children, taking place this year between 8th and 13th June in Draíocht, Dublin 15. This is a six day festival entirely aimed at children, offering magical performances, puppetry, storytelling and visual art. The festival boasts that it has something to offer children from 0-12 years old.
The Ballina Salmon Festival takes place over ten days at the beginning of every July in Ballina in County Mayo - dubbed by locals as the salmon capital of the world. This year the festival will take place between the 2nd and 11th of July. Thousands of families from all over Europe flock to this festival to enjoy the artistic and cultural events that are very much planned with families in mind. Little ones will love the Teddy Bear's picnic and the Grand Prix Duck Race; sporty kids can take part in the Powerade and Junior Triathlons; and teenagers can choose from auditioning for ‘Mayo's Got Talent’ at Hotel Ballina or the ‘Teenage Blast in the Yard’ at Kilcullens Yard. Mum and Dad won't be bored either: there is a Heritage Day, fireworks displays, music concerts and the All-Ireland Pipeband Championships.
Another one to add to the schedule of your family holiday in a motorhome in Ireland is the Coolaney Summer Festival, taking place between the 23rd and 25th July in Coolaney in Sligo. The weekend features a children's day with a treasure hunt, a Playstation challenge and a puppet show. Other attractions include a fun run and race night, street entertainment and novelty events. While the kids are kept busy, adults can enjoy arts and live music and learn about Coolaney's rural heritage.
