The Wild Atlantic Way Surfers Paradise

To continue our exploration of the World famous Wild Atlantic way we will now look at the route from Donegal town through to Sligo and into Ballina in Co. Mayo. This section of the route is a major attraction each year for keen surfers as the coast gives amazing waves to catch and surf and experience the famous Prowlers waves in action.

Donegal Bay To Sligo

Donegal Bay has a number of beaches to experience with some of the best surfing waves in the world. Stretching from Murvagh Beach to Rosses Point the route is simply spectacular and breath taking. Donegal Bay is Ireland’s largest bay and has some of the highest sea cliffs in Ireland with Slieve League towering at 1972 ft.

The Wild Atlantic Way is best expressed at Mullaghmore Head. On the west, the Atlantic demonstrates its strength and aggression while on the east an amazing beach and a beautiful harbour nestle in the protection of the bay. From the bay you catch get a ferry over to the island of Inishmurray and explore Inishmurray monastery and delve into the islands ancient heritage.

As you travel into Sligo you can step back in time and visit Yeats Memorial Building or discover Carrowmore megalithic tombs which includes ring forts, chamber tombs, passage graves and cairns.
